The Two Mikes

The Two Mikes
Ever wanted to talk with someone about a book you just read? You could just join a book group and talk about it, drink a little, veer off on tangents, work back around to the book again, and finally wrap it up by picking the next book.

But what happens when the book you just read is about about hungry zombies or a haunted house, and your Eat, Pray, Love–reading friends aren’t really into reading it, much less discussing its finer points? That’s what we’re here for. We Two Mikes will be your virtual book group for discussing new and interesting and old and half-forgotten horror books.

If you want to follow along with us, look at the next forbidden book on the table and start reading.

Episode 27.0 Thomas Ligotti's The Shadow at the Bottom of the World

Fall down the dark twisted freshly dug monster hole and claw your way through Thomas Ligotti's short story collection The Shadow at the Bottom of the World. Puppets, decaying cities, blood baths, crazy dads and creepy other-worldly plants are in the mix and the Mikes wonder if any of it matters or not. (Hint: It does.) Everything turns out in the end.

WARNING: After a year and half the boys still have not mastered perfect sound recording, so until they can afford a real engineer, they beg your pardon as you put up with all the tinny Cylon sounds in the background.

Hi,
I just found your podcast because I was looking for stuff about Thomas Ligotti... good discussion (except for the tinfoil).

Anyway, I wanted to recommend a movie that I think has similar nightmare logic to it... 'The Reflecting Skin'.
It's definitely NOT Ligotti... but it has that weird flow where things happen and no explanations are forthcoming.

I look forward to digging through the rest of your podcasts... and hope you keep making them.

Thanks,
Ken

THanks for tuning in, Ken. Ligotti is a personal favorite, and I'm working my way through his new nonfiction book right now.

I'll definitely check out "The Reflecting Skin" (although I see Netflix isn't gonna be any help in this regard).

Write in again with recommendations and comments. We'd love to hear from you.
